MAYFAIR Hotels and Resorts Ltd, which operates 11 palatial properties across 9 scenic destinations, is synonymous with eco luxury.
With a better part of the properties dedicated to gratifying greenery that exquisitely adorns the aesthetic architectural concept of low-rise properties, MAYFAIR is recognised distinguishably as a destination where luxury meets nature.
MAYFAIR Lagoon, the flagship property of MAYFAIR, is a charming testimony to the eco-friendly ethos of the group.
A five star deluxe property situated in the heart of the Bhubaneswar in Odisha state, the property derives its name from an attractive 2.5-acre lagoon that forms the heart of the resort.
The first and only first star hotel in Odisha, MAYFAIR Lagoon is also the most celebrated and cherished luxury destination in the state. It has been a pioneer in initiating the concept of eco-conscious luxury in the state.
Global warming is now a cause of serious global concern. Much of the cause of this concern can be attributed to rampant deforestation, along with escalating industrialisation and urbanisation.
Among many other effective ways to minimise the impact of climate change is undertaking initiatives that help in offsetting the carbon footprint because, it is but the increase composition of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere due to anthropogenic activities that is the root cause of the disturbed ecological balance.
ECO-FRIENDLY PRACTICES AT MAYFAIR LAGOON, BHUBANESWAR
Trees are a great way to offset the carbon footprint and, hence, at MAYFAIR Lagoon, we have dedicated more than 35% area of the property to greenery, wherein we have planted exotic trees with a larger vision to fight climate change while also offering guests a nature-themed luxury experience.
Everyone must be aware of Cyclone Fani, which hit the coastal districts of Odisha in May 2019. The cyclone nearly stripped MAYFAIR Lagoon of its green belt, with hundreds of trees having been uprooted. It was a challenging task to restore the greenery and undo the havoc wreaked by Fani.
ECO-FRIENDLY MAYFAIR LAGOON
– 35% of the area is dedicated to 10,000 trees and plants.
– Zero plastic property.
– Solar energy plant.
– Energy efficient lighting system.
– Solid waste treatment plant.
– Waste water treatment plant.
MAYFAIR Lagoon, in pursuit of its unfaltering commitment to preserve, protect and promote eco-friendly practices, was amongst the first business organisations to have taken the lead to plant 10,000 grown up trees on and around the property.
The initiative was hailed by the local media and inspired many others to undertake similar ventures to restore greenery in Bhubaneswar.
Apart from the green cover, which is empirically the best way forward to fight global warming, we practise sustainability through other eco-friendly practices such as having a waste water treatment plant at the property through which we treat used water, which in turn, is reused for gardening purposes, thereby ensuring efficient and prudent use of water.
Likewise, we have installed a state-of-the-art solid waste treatment plant and a high capacity solar power generation system through which we source the majority of our energy requirements.
We have also installed an energy-efficient lighting system that ensures the judicious use of electricity. Apart from the above mentioned, as far as possible, we involve guests in our sustainability and eco-friendly practices by making them aware of the efforts undertaken by us while also encouraging them to be eco-friendly.
We also organise regular training sessions and awareness campaigns inhouse, to sensitise our staff to eco-friendly and sustainability practices and to encourage them to embody these principles in their everyday conduct.
MAYFAIR Lagoon is a zero plastic property.
Moving ahead, we look forward to further ensuring the prudent use of resources by making the best use of technology in our commitment and zeal to protect the environment, while also offering sustainable luxury to our guests.
