Advancing towards its sustainability goals, Nature Bio Foods (NBF), one of India’s foremost organic food companies, launched its – ‘Make Every Day Green Initiative’ on April 24, 2019.
“Considering the global trend of growing demand for resources like food, water, housing, energy and consumer goods owing to increasing population, we took a step ahead in improvising our energy and resource consumption patterns for renewable and non-renewable sources of energy in our office building, production factories, as well as, farmer fields. The concept is based upon the 4R strategy – Reuse, Reduce, Recycle and Refuse,” says Rohan Grover, Director, Nature Bio Foods.
The event commenced at the 25-year-old company’s Kamaspur (Sonipat, Haryana) unit, with an interactive session between employees and the company’s sustainability head, Amit Singh, followed by a pledge spearheaded by the company’s CEO, J S Oberoi.

INTENSIVE FARM PROJECTS TO REDUCE CARBON FOOTPRINT
On the occasion, the organisation launched its intensive field projects, which include the installation of 10,000 LEDs, replacing incandescent light bulbs in NBF’s farms; installation of 300 solar street lights, as well as, installation of 400 household biogas plants, which significantly impact carbon emissions. The organisation’s organic agricultural practices have reduced its carbon footprint by 80,000 tonne per year.
Furthermore, the organisation, through its laser levelling farm practices, aims to save 2,000,000 cubic metres of water per year.
PREVENTION OF CROP BURNING THROUGH UPCYCLING
Nature Bio Foods has recently signed a contract with the INDUS Forum (Indian-Dutch Sustainability Forum, an entrepreneurial network designed to improve sustainable innovations and enhance trade relations amongst Indian and Dutch companies), which brings together the likes of MARS and other corporates to upcycle crop waste into paper packaging and products. The collaboration will prevent crop waste being burned, which is a major contributor of pollution.
CONSERVATION OF RESOURCES AT EVERY LEVEL
Also, the organisation plans to double its capacity of solar power consumption and reduce the burden on non-renewable energy sources. All NBF’s employees have been acquainted with their current energy level consumption and paper usage. They have been apprised of adequate waste disposal activities and are encouraged to contribute ideas towards successful execution of the same.
Nature Bio Foods strives to improve through small, yet impactful steps such as installation of waste segregation bins, encouraging double-sided printing of documents on 100% recycled paper, discouraging unnecessary printing of documents, replacing plastic water bottles with earthen ones, reusing old stationary, utilising treated water from the company’s manufacturing plants in washrooms and for gardening, etc.
Last but not the least, in reiteration of its commitment to sustainability, NBF switches off its mains power for an hour every month.
Nature Bio Foods continues to persist on this sustainable path by adding such initiatives to its bucket list. Sustainability is the most important aspect of the corporate’s business model. Protecting the environment is not a burden for Nature Bio Foods—on the contrary, it has always encompassed its ethical framework surrounding sustainability and corporate social responsibility.
