Established in 2019, Urvika is an organic food startup led by two women entrepreneurs—Urvashi Bhardwaj and Sarika Mishra.
The brand’s name, besides being a marriage between the founders’ first names, also represents the Sanskrit word, Urvar or Urvarak, meaning ‘fertile’.
Their ethos and beliefs towards natural products and pure things drove the duo to start something sustainable, organic and natural, in order to encourage local farmers and help the community make healthier choices.
The Gurugram-based brand’s product range includes organic oils, ghee, organic pulses & organic lentils, organic atta, organic cereals, organic rice, organic spices & organic condiments, organic sweeteners, and even upcycled bottles.
The team has liaised with Farmer Producer Organisations (FPOs) to procure authentic organic foods directly from organic farmers across India.
Urvika’s organic oils are extracted employing the traditional Lakadi Ghani (wood churned) method, which retains the goodness of oil.
The oils are then packed in food grade glass bottles and stored away from light, which keep them fresh for the end consumer. The reason for using the heavier glass bottles rather than the more economical plastic is to prevent any chemical leaching from plastic packaging.
Urvika adheres to stringent quality parameters. The methods of quality control are applied at every stage, encompassing sourcing, extraction, packaging, storage and distribution.
An organic certification by the French certifying body Ecocert has been conferred.
