Great importance is given to ghee in Indian households and it has been a key ingredient in Indian cooking for generations. Children are told to eat it for strength and growth, pregnant women are advised to consume it for embryonic health, seniors eat it for bone health and immunity boosting—all members of the Indian family eat ghee.

Now, this superfood has also gained a reputation for health the world over.

The markets, today, are flooded with varieties of ghee, which appear appetising, but are they really healthy enough to be on your kitchen shelves? Let’s take a close look at what we can consciously opt for when buying ghee.

A2 ghee (derived from A2 milk), the purest form of desi ghee is prepared through the traditional method of bilona (churning the curd into curdled clarified butter or ghee). A2 milk is considered by many as the most nutritious kind of milk and is good for all age-groups.

4 IMPORTANT BENEFITS OF A2-MILK GHEE

1] Improves digestion.

A2 milk ghee is one of the most easily digestible dairy fat. This makes it an ideal choice for consumption by all age groups. It helps prevent constipation, aids digestion and detoxifies the body. This ghee contains butyric acid, which nourishes the body. It also helps in reducing inflammation.

2] Boosts immunity.

A2 ghee is one of the best immunity builders and is ideal for consumption by children and the aged, as it builds the immunity system by nourishing the body with fat-soluble vitamins A, D, E and K. These vitamin clusters help in proper functioning of the brain, heart, and skin, as well as, promote bone development, while also fighting infections and flus.

3] Has a higher smoke/burning point, meaning it does not release toxic fumes when cooked at high temperatures.

Most dieticians recommend A2 ghee even for frying foods. This is because ghee has a higher smoke point. Other cooking oils generate toxic fumes when heated to higher temperatures but A2 ghee has a smoke point of approx. 500 degrees compared to vegetable oils and butter, which generally have a smoke point of 350 degrees.

4] Treats burns, inflammation, and dry skin.

A natural remedy is to apply fresh ghee on the burnt area. It immediately soothes the skin and gradually heals it. A2 ghee is also rich in conjugated linoleic acid, which is most effective in treating inflammation. Use of ghee for application on dry skin makes it an excellent traditional home remedy for skin ailments and dryness.
