Model, actress and entrepreneur, Dipannita Sharma, shares with Pure & Eco India her belief system and her love of organic foods

So you love organic food. What about your family?
Along with me, my family has started including more and more organic foods in the daily diet. Hailing from Assam, we are staunch rice eaters. My parents were definitely the most sceptical about letting go of white rice for brown. But now we only eat organic brown rice! We are also experimenting with finger millet chapattis. I gorge on as many organic fruits and veggies as I care for. In fact, even right now, I’m biting into a slice of organic apple from Himachal. I especially love organic honey.

a resizedWhere do you get your organic goodies from?
I generally get my organic foodstuff online from a reputed organic food site. If I have time then I’ll personally visit stores which stock organic foods and handpick what I need.

You’ve travelled the world. Tell us about your favourite things from the organic food scenario abroad.
What I love best in the West are the organic foods in pop ups and flea markets. There are these lovely weekend markets which include shopping and eating and are really fun to spend a days at. This is where I found some of the most authentic gourmet organic foods from oils to cheeses to ice creams! Exclusive organic food marts are also something I found abroad and loved. We so need these here!c

Do you feel India could imbibe some of the healthy trends prevalent in the West?
Over time I have seen a lot of healthy organic trends that were prevalent abroad making their way here. I’ve been to a clutch of pop ups in India. But I guess we would have to wait a little longer for the organic fever to catch on in a big way. The great thing is that it has begun and people are becoming increasingly aware of the benefits of going organic.

You are now in a new chapter of your life as a businesswoman. Tell us about your company HighTide and your yacht business.
We started HighTide with the aim of promoting sports entertainment and arts. We do not restrict ourselves to only popular stuff but support those which perhaps aren’t as well followed as they should be and have great potential.
Our first venture has been in support of Table Tennis, a sport I have grown up with. We own a team in the Mumbai Super League, which is the first Indian league for TT! I believe Table Tennis in India has awesome potential and it is our mandate to promote it in a big way.

The yacht chartering venture was actually the first business venture Dilsher, my husband and I embarked upon. It’s something very close to our hearts and it’s been such a huge learning experience. Currently we are on the look out for a bigger, more spacious yacht.

bWhat does the word ‘Health’ mean to you?
For me health encompasses wellness of the mind and body. It’s about my thoughts, my actions and the company I keep. It’s about how I live my life on a regular basis. Plus a fitness regime and eating right is absolutely essential. It’s a combo of regular exercise, being positive and a healthy, fresh, organic diet.

Who is Dipannita Sharma and what tenets does she live by?
I am the coming together of my upbringing and my experiences. There are a few things that I try to live by:
• The only way to be is to be at it!
• Never judge your success/failure according to anyone else’s but on the basis of the path you created/chose
• Never stop dreaming and never stop hoping! The only reason anyone is anywhere is because of that
• Make time for ‘Things-To-Do’ and people that matter. At the end of the day that is what brings meaning to life

A final question. What’s your go-to health snack?
Definitely soya chips or a brown bread tomato and cucumber sandwich.
