The plastic we have thoughtlessly accumulated isn’t going anywhere.

But here’s how we can keep it from flooding our streets, our oceans and our ecosystems.

Inspired to make an ECOBRICK?

If the answer is YES, here are a few points to remember:

What is an Ecobrick?

It consists of a recyclable PET bottle filled with non-recyclable waste (plastic wrappers, etc).

Why bother to make one?

To sequester plastic (particularly low value MLP/multi-layered plastic) waste and divert it away from ecosystems or burning or industry.

How to make an Ecobrick?

Keep stuffing your dry plastic waste into plastic bottles. Stuff the waste with the help of a stick or rod, leaving minimal airspaces in between. It takes months to get one ready!

What purpose do Ecobricks serve?

Ecobricks are called bricks for a reason—they can be used in construction. Use them as building blocks in making decorative borders in parks, gardens or furniture, etc.

DO NOT GIVE ECOBRICKS TO WASTE WORKERS or the KABADIWALLA. They wouldn’t know what to do with them!

ORGANISATIONS THAT ACCEPT ECOBRICKS

There are organisations which accept Ecobricks for construction such as

Karma Lakelands, Gurugram, and

Galgotias University, Greater Noida.

Two NGOs are also involved in the promotion of Ecobricks—Kabaadey Ji and Ecobricks Kalimpong.

DETAILED INFORMATION ON ECOBRICKS

A more fun idea would be to customise your own circular regenerative Ecobricks designs, because an Ecobrick is about taking responsibility for your plastic. Visit www.ecobricks.org for such cradle-to-cradle techniques.
