To many, anything with cow urine and cow dung may well be the constituents of a witch’s brew and cannot be for human consumption.
But, in fact, panchagavya is highly regarded in ancient ayurvedic tradition as a health-giving and immunity-boosting elixir. It has a wide variety of applications—in plant health, veterinary sciences and human health.
Panchagavya-based products were prominent in the sub-continent of Asia for many centuries but witnessed decline in the past few decades. However, India with its rich cultural heritage, still continues to use panchagavya products, especially in rural areas, which have adhered to custom.
And now, modern India, too, is returning to its roots, and is exhibiting demand for these medicinal products.
Following is a list of some panchagavya-based products that are available in the market nowadays:
SHATADHAUTA GRITHA: This is an age-old cream, as documented in ancient vedic scriptures. The product is known to benefit the skin and is said to cure numerous skin infections.
A2 COW GHEE: This is ghee containing A2 Beta casein. A2 ghee keeps the bones strong, maintains healthy skin, promotes brain health and balances blood pressure. Ayurvedic tomes prescribe A2 ghee as a medicine called Panchagavya Ghrita for certain psychological ailments.
PANCHAGAVYA SOAP: The panchagavya soap is a perfect natural scrub to remove dead skin. It is made up of all 5 cow products (ghee, milk, curd, cow urine, cow dung), along with additional extracts of gooseberry, turmeric, tulsi (holy basil), giloy (guduchi), neem and aloe vera.
It is good for all skin types and is said to stagger ageing slightly.
PANCHAGAVYA DIYA: Panchagavya diya is prepared from cow dung and cow urine. The whole diya (lamp) is dried in the sun for a couple of weeks. The cup-shaped diya is then filled with ghee, curd and milk.
These diyas can be used for your daily puja or on festivals like Diwali.
GOMUTRA TABLETS: Gomutra tablets are basically made up of cow urine considering its medicinal properties as a natural and alternate medicine for diabetes, blood pressure, asthma, psoriasis, eczema, arthritis, thyroid and gynaecological problems.
Cow urine detoxifies the body and eliminates bad fat from the body. It is also supposed to be an alternative medicine for losing weight naturally.
